Public Partner Network Governance Group Member

If you would like to find out about how decisions are made within NIHR SPHR, or to influence how the Public Partners Network (or PAN) develops please think about joining our governance group. We are looking for public partners who have current or recent experience of being involved in SPHR research and are interested in contributing to the shaping of the school and the PAN.

Please note that public partners can be a member of only one PAN sub-group at a time. If you are a member of the Communications sub-group you will be unable to join this group this year.

Membership of the Governance group will be for 12 months. This will allow membership of the group to change giving other public partners the opportunity to get involved in the governance group and give you an opportunity to get involved in other groups.

What will the group do?

The group will get involved in activities such as:

  • Observing SPHR Executive Group meetings. The Executive Group oversees the development of the School, decides the research priorities, monitors progress on research projects and programmes and helps ensure that SPHR members work together
  • Helping to plan meetings of the PAN
  • Report back on the group’s activities to Public Partners Network members.

At some point in the future there will also be the opportunity to contribute to SPHR Advisory Board meetings. The Advisory Board provides independent advice to School Director, Professor Ashley Adamson on all of the School’s activities.

We will discuss with you any training or support needs you may have to help you contribute fully to this group. There will be a period of induction which will include sitting in on a meeting of the Executive group.

How often will the group meet?

The group will meet every two or three months for between an hour and 90 minutes. It is likely that these meetings will happen on-line, so you will not need to travel but will need access to the internet and a laptop, tablet or smart mobile phone. If you are involved in a specific piece of work, you might be asked to meet more often.

Public involvement payments will be made for attending these meetings and contributing to the group’s activities.

How big will group be?

The group will have up to 6 public partners. The group will also include SPHR colleagues.

How do I sign up?

Please send an email and write a couple of sentences about why you are interested in joining the PAN Governance group to Michelle at michelle.collins@lancaster.ac.uk .This could describe any experience you have of similar work, or a willingness to learn new skills in order to take on the role. Please let us know that you are interested by Friday 15 January 2021.

If we have more people sign up to join than places available, we will make a selection on the basis of what you have told us about yourself.
