This research followed on from a previous SPHR project where a new method was developed to assess how ‘age-friendly’ cities and communities were. This project tested and refined the new assessment method, known as an evaluation tool.

A new study, published in the journal Systematic Reviews, conducted by researchers at the University of Liverpool and Newcastle University has identified the most effective initiatives for promoting respect and social inclusion for older people living in the community.

Age Friendly Cities – Highlights from end-of-project stakeholder workshop

Efforts to make cities age-friendly must be evidence-informed and evaluated, say NIHR SPHR researchers from the Cambridge Institute of Public Health and the University of Liverpool, drawing on fieldwork in Liverpool that included a focus on falls among older people that was carried out as part of the Ageing Well programme at the NIHR School for Public Health Research.
