The School’s Voluntary Sector Evaluation Scheme (VoySES) is an innovative pilot to evaluate voluntary sector public health initiatives developed and delivered by communities.
About VoySES
The School is piloting an innovative scheme that will evaluate work undertaken within the voluntary sector. The School is collaborating with the People’s Health Trust on a scheme to evaluate locally developed and delivered initiatives that have the potential to be transferable to other areas and have an impact on public health.
People’s Health Trust are currently commissioning work as part of their Health Justice Fund. This fund provides a route through which communities experiencing the sharp end of health inequalities can work with them, using their experience and practice, to improve health for the long term. The Health Justice Fund prioritises thematic areas based on what people most affected by these issues have told them is needed and what the evidence points towards.
The two priority areas for the pilot are:
- Discrimination and Health
- Jobs, Young People and Health
There are currently two teams of SPHR researchers working with People’s Health Trust on these priority areas. This will inform a call for a programme of focused initiatives from voluntary sector organisations which could be evaluated as part of the scheme.
Background
This funding commitment follows the success of the SPHR Public Health Practice Evaluation Scheme (PHPES) and the desire to replicate this success with other key stakeholders, including the voluntary sector.
