Earlier this month SPHR held an event to welcome the School’s first cohort of PhD students to the NIHR community.
The event brought together 20 PhD students from across the School, giving students an opportunity to network, learn about the School and the wider NIHR Community.
Students at the event took part in team building exercises, workshops, and heard from individuals across NIHR.
Professor David Jones OBE, Dean of the NIHR Academy welcomed SPHR students to the NIHR Academy, and spoke about the number of career development and support opportunities available to students throughout their studies.
Students took part in two workshops exploring what is public health and the importance of patient and public involvement (PPI) in research.
Students were introduced to SPHRs Researcher Network (ResNet) and heard from a previous SPHR PhD student Dr David Troy.
Professor Ashley Adamson, Director of NIHR School for Public Health Research said: “It was great to bring our students together at the beginning of their studies.
“Our students will be the public health leaders of the future and I’m looking forward to supporting them and watching them develop as researchers over the coming years.”
