Congratulations to Professor Kate Walters for being awarded Principal Investigator of the Year 2021 by the Society for Academic Primary Care (SAPC). Kate is Co-Lead on the NIHR SPHR Public Mental Health programme and an ARC North Thames and University College London (UCL) researcher.
The award recognises principal investigators who provide exceptional support, leadership and encouragement for their team through the highs and lows of research, careers and life. Kate was nominated by some of the early career academic colleagues she works with and was selected by the panel of judges to be the winner in 2021.
Kate is a Professor of Primary Care & Epidemiology in the Department of Primary Care & Population Health at UCL. Alongside her academic work, she continues in clinical practice as a General Practitioner in North London.
Her main research interests are in healthy ageing, mental health and public health. She has a particular interest in developing and testing interventions in primary care and community settings for people with complex needs. Her work includes both epidemiological studies and complex interventions in the fields of health and well-being for older people, disease risk/prevention and mental health.
