
The National Institute for Health Research (NIHR) wishes to fund a set of innovative research collaborations between local government and the academic sector that focus on improving the wider determinants, or drivers, of health.
HDRCs are intended to be a UK-wide initiative led primarily by local government.

Expected timescales
This funding opportunity will close at 1pm on 23 November 2021 for expressions of interest. Expressions of interest considered in remit of this funding opportunity will be assessed by a sub-committee of the PHR Prioritisation and Funding Committee in early 2022. Those shortlisted will be asked to develop a second stage application submitted in March 2022, Stage 2 applications will be subject to external peer review and final interviews will take place in May 2022. We hope to have decisions made in May/June 2022.
Workshops
A workshop to help guide potential applicants will be held on 6 and 20 October 2021. To register for the workshop please email phr@nihr.ac.uk your name, title and organisation and with a one-page summary by 1pm, 17 September 2021. The one-page summary should include information about your approach to developing an HDRC, details of potential partners/ collaborators and any questions you would like to ask or points of clarity.
Support for completing the application form
The PHR team is always available to answer questions regarding funding opportunities, and will respond as quickly as possible. For this funding opportunity, we will also specifically dedicate the 9 November 2021 to answering practical questions regarding completion of the application form.
