|Opening date: 1 February 2022|
|Closing date: 1 March 2022|
We are pleased to announce the launch of the SPHR Impact Accelerator Awards (IAA). These awards will be available to support development and realisation of impact from SPHR research.
Apply for funding to help develop and realise the impact of your SPHR project.
What can this funding be used for?
To be eligible for this funding you must have received funding for a research project from the NIHR School for Public Health Research and want to use the funding to enhance or accelerate the impact of that project. You can apply for funding for any activity or intervention that you think will enhance the project’s impact. Suggestions include dissemination materials and activities such as videos, workshops, infographics, tools to help research users engage with and use your findings etc. We are happy to consider applications for any activity or intervention, however, it must be clearly detailed in the application how the funding will be used and the pathway to impact must be clearly described.
For more information on how SPHR defines impact, and useful resources for planning for impact, please see the SPHR Strategy for Impact and guidance document.
Who can apply?
Researchers involved in SPHR research from April 2012 to April 2022 (i.e. quinquennium 1 and quinquennium 2 projects) are eligible to apply for funding to accelerate the impact of the SPHR funded project.
Anyone involved in the project can apply for funding, including PhDs and Fellows. Activities and interventions may be proposed and led by any member of the research team, and we encourage applications from early and mid-career researchers. Project principal investigators (PIs) do not have to lead proposals; however, it is expected that any proposal would have support from the PI and wider research team.
Multiple applications from one project team may be submitted if justified.
What are we looking for?
SPHR Impact Accelerator Awards are available to support development and realisation of impact from SPHR research.
We are seeking high-quality applications for funding that demonstrate how the funding will be used to enhance the impact that your SPHR research is having. We will not be restricting the kind of activities or resources that the funding may be used for. We acknowledge that the best way of supporting impact will vary between projects and situations. However, in your application form, you must demonstrate clearly how the funding would be used and how you expect this to affect the impact that your research is having.
How much funding can I apply for?
It is envisaged that the majority of successful applications will not normally exceed £25,000 (although larger awards may be considered depending on quality of applications and availability of funding).
When will funding be issued?
Funding will be awarded from April 2022.
How to apply
Please email forms to email@example.com by 5pm on 1st March 2022.
Applications received after this deadline will not be processed, although, we do plan to have further calls for IAA’s in the future (see below).
How we will assess your application
Applications will be assessed by a panel consisting of senior SPHR academics and members of the SPHR Directorate Team.
Applications will be assessed against the following criteria:
- delivering and demonstrating impact
- quality and appropriateness of approach
- use of existing resources, strengths and relationships
- engagement and stakeholder management
Will there be any further calls for applications?
We expect that there will be future calls for applications, but details of future calls are yet to be determined and will be announced in due course.
If you have any questions on the impact acceleration awards, please contact the SPHR Directorate team at:
This is the first time SPHR has run this scheme and we expect our understanding to improve during this process. We will be updating this webpage and adding frequently asked questions (FAQs) accordingly.
