NIHR SPHR researchers have published a strategy for engaging and working with children and young people. The strategy is part of a wider project to enable children and young people’s involvement in whole system action to reduce inequalities in the social determinants of health.
The strategy was developed through the bringing together of guidelines from INVOLVE and our community partners; the Children and Young People’s Empowerment Project (Chilypep) and the Association for Young People’s Health (AYPH).
The strategy describes four principles for engaging and working with children and young people;
- Timing and location
- Communication and language
- Risks and safety
