The aim of the NIHR School for Public Health Research (SPHR) alcohol programme is to identify and evaluate approaches to reducing alcohol- related harm that are relevant in an English public health policy context.

There are multiple causes and influences on alcohol use. Prevention of alcohol consumption and harm inevitably is complex – and will require multiple integrated components that can operate at individual, community and environmental levels.

Our programme of research, therefore, focuses on multiple research areas and draws on a range of methodological approaches which will support evidence-based decision making at a local level.
